Concerning Writers and Furries

Sun Aug 6, 2006, 10:01 PM
Stop me if you've heard this one before: A woman walks into a dinosaur's mouth carrying a shark and hits a gorilla wearing a spacesuit with it.

I'm wondering how prolific the craft of writing is on Deviant Art. My good friend has got himself an account here and uses it to post bits of writing in the hopes of getting critiques and whatnot but like almost every other website he's ever tried there's not been much biting yet. But then, he hasn't had it very long and it sometimes takes a long time and lots of posting to actually attract any attention, even if your work is primarily visual. I get a decent number of comments because there's a bunch of people who read my comic and come floating in from that website. Without that I'd be floating in total obscurity too rather than languishing in a tiny fanbase. The point I was trying to get to is that I wonder if there's actually a community of writers who use this site to share and comment on each other's work. Perhaps it needs to be sought out. Or perhaps writing is best posted somewhere else. I wonder.

Also, I bring up furries. I consider them to be an interesting phoenomenon of late. And it's not really a new pheonomenon either honestly. There has been a long history of cartoon animals of all shapes and sizes, and long ago the Egyptians thought combinations of humans and animals were so badass that they'd have whole gods based on them. But the internet has really given the fandom the ability to thrive and for people of all races and creeds to draw all kinds of cool, naughty, and sometimes batshit fucking wierd shit involving anthropomorphs. What impresses me about them is how prolific the furry artists are. They produce such immense quantities of work every single day. It's staggering. And a lot of them are extremely good. I mean, shit, few people that draw so very very much can walk away without at least some form of talent for all their hard work. I'm not personally a furry fan, though I do like some select pieces of well-done furry art. But I do find the hard-working habits of their art community to be rather inspiring.

Exalted.

From what I know about the writers community there are alot of writers who actually critique work and it normally takes less time for them to discover your work.

There are plenty of clubs for writers to get comments. Get your friend to try this club for size

I've been hear just over two years, and I still have trouble getting comments on my stuff.

Has your friend tried Fictionpress? It doesn't have as much of the community feel you tend to get here when people comment you and stuff, but I think my friends have been pretty good on getting reviews & such.
